So many of us get ourselves into difficult situations. Sometimes we put ourselves at unnecessary risk. Other times, we face circumstances that are beyond our current capacity to deal with. This is a list of resources including websites, organizations and crisis help lines for those that need it.

This list is by no means comprehensive. If there is a resource that you feel others may find helpful, please contact me and let me know.


Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues

Lambda Legal
National organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

Human Rights Campaign
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.

Guide for Lesbian and Gay Survivors of Violent Crimes
Eighty percent of lesbians and gay men have experienced some form of anti-gay or anti-lesbian bias-related violence.

PFLAG - Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians & Gays
We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

GLAAD - Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

American Veterans for Equal Rights
AVER is a non-profit, chapter-based association of active, reserve and veteran servicemembers dedicated to full and equal rights and equitable treatment for all present and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Interfaith Working Group
Our mission is to inform the public of the diversity of religious opinion on social issues where it is not widely recognized by providing a voice and a forum for religious organizations, congregations and clergy who support equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people; reproductive freedom; and the separation of church and state.

National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
The Task Force creates change by building LGBT political power from the ground up. We bolster the strength of local LGBT activism in rural enclaves, small towns and cities nationwide.

Youth Resource

Addiction/Codependency

Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

Al-Anon
For over 50 years, Al-Anon (which includes Alateen for younger members) has been offering hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics. It is estimated that each alcoholic affects the lives of at least four other people... alcoholism is truly a family disease.

Alateen
Alateen is part of Al-Anon, which helps families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Alateen is our recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members.

Narcotics Anonymous
Narcotics Anonymous is an international, community-based association of recovering drug addicts with more than 43,900 weekly meetings in over 127 countries worldwide.

Crystal Meth Anonymous
Crystal Meth Anonymous is a 12 step fellowship for those in recovery from addiction to crystal meth.

Co-Dependents Anonymous
Co-Dependents Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women whose common purpose is to develop healthy relationships.

Adult Children of Alcoholics
Adult Children of Alcoholics is a Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition program of women and men who grew up in alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional homes. We meet with each other in a mutually respectful, safe environment and acknowledge our common experiences.

Sex Addicts Anonymous
Sex Addicts Anonymous, SAA, is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other so they may overcome their sexual addiction and help others recover from sexual addiction or dependency.

Center For Aids
The CFA publishes Research Initiative/Treatment Action! (RITA!) and other publications with the latest HIV/AIDS information. The CFA also has a walk-in HIV/AIDS treatment information center in Houston (free publications/factsheets, one-on-ones)

Project Inform
Project Inform provides information on the diagnosis, treatment and research of HIV disease as well as access to health care in English and Spanish. As a national AIDS service organization, Project Inform is working to help end the epidemic and has been in the fight against HIV/AIDS since 1985; when reliable information about the disease and its treatment was nearly impossible to obtain.

International Carnival of Positivities
